January 2025 Growth Stocks Challenge Review

For those that are unaware , we are running a couple of investment challenges, one for dividend stocks and one for growth stocks, how a little investment of only £10 a week can perform over time. The purpose is to engage with other investors in a disciplined investment journey while we share our personal choices for this challenge. As January 2025 concludes today (the longest month for everyone!), it’s time to review and assess the performance of these investments that we have made so far, considering their purchase dates, entry prices, and current valuations. Remember that we are updating with every new purchase in our main post called £10 / week Growth Stocks Challenge.

Below is a chronological summary of the stocks purchased, including their acquisition dates, quantities acquired, and the amount invested:

Performance Analysis

   • Quantity Acquired: 0.1093115 shares
   • Current Value: £9.83
   • Performance: The stock has decreased by approximately 1.7%, resulting in a loss of £0.17.
2. Micron Technology Inc. (MU)
   • Purchase Date: 30/12/2024
   • Quantity Acquired: 0.147618 shares
   • Current Value: £10.88
   • Performance: The stock has appreciated by approximately 8.8%, resulting in a gain of £0.88.
3. Salesforce Inc. (CRM)
   • Purchase Date: 06/01/2025
   • Quantity Acquired: 0.0372693 shares
   • Current Value: £10.44
   • Performance: The stock has increased by approximately 4.4%, resulting in a gain of £0.44.
4. Block Inc. (XYZ)
   • Purchase Date: 08/01/2025
   • Quantity Acquired: 0.141043 shares
   • Current Value: £10.58
   • Performance: The stock has appreciated by approximately 5.8%, resulting in a gain of £0.58.
5. Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD)
   • Purchase Date: 23/01/2025
   • Quantity Acquired: 0.1004368 shares
   • Current Value: £9.69
   • Performance: The stock has decreased by approximately 3.1%, resulting in a loss of £0.31.
6. Broadcom Inc. (AVGO)
   • Purchase Date: 27/01/2025
   • Quantity Acquired: 0.057759 shares
   • Current Value: £10.26
   • Performance: The stock has increased by approximately 2.6%, resulting in a gain of £0.26.

Overall Portfolio Performance

The total amount invested over the month was £60. As of 31st January 2025, the combined current value of the portfolio is approximately £61.68. This reflects an overall gain of £1.68, equating to a rate of return of approximately 2.8% for the first month only, the equivalent to 33.6% annual (that would be nice!)

Looking ahead

In this inaugural month, the majority of the selected growth stocks have demonstrated positive performance, contributing to the growth of the portfolio. While some stocks have experienced slight declines, specially after DeepSeek was released, the overall trend is encouraging. We need to remember that this is a long game and we just at the very start of it! Short-term fluctuations are natural.
